With our first students graduating in 2012, Radio Television and Cinema Department realized its institutional identity in a short time with international collaborations, research and studies by its academic staff, penetration of film and media industries by its graduates, and the success of its students in national and international competitions and festivals.
Our department is the first and only department that have been accredited for a duration of 5 years in Turkey by İLEDAK Accreditation Council. In addition, the department is a candidate member of The International Association of Film and Television Schools (CILECT), an association that counts among its members the world’s most prestigious cinema and television schools.
Academic staff of the department have been a part of two European Union projects as coordinators and partners, and they have produced two feature-length documentaries, İnsan Kent (2014) and Kazım (2018), both screened and awarded by international and national festivals.
Films of our students have been chosen, recognized and awarded by renowned festivals such as Adana, Antalya, Munich Film Schools Festival, VGIK Student Festival and AegeanDocs.
Our graduates are working in film and television industries, particularly in production and post-production teams of series, film and advertising projects as directors, editors, colorists, assistant directors, production assistants and scriptwriters. Those of our graduates who have chosen academic careers are already studying in postgraduate levels, finding positions in various universities as lecturers and research assistants.
Among the main periodic events that our department organizes yearly are seminars conducted by industry experts, artists and lecturers teaching cinema and television, workshops, and Contact International Student Films Festival.
Radio, Television and Cinema Department upholds an educational philosophy where students learn by practicing their art while also acquiring the necessary knowledge demanded by their field. Our curriculum reflects this approach by including courses covering theoretical, technical and practical subjects. Courses and their contents are constantly updated with an eye towards contemporary trends and the requirements of the industry. In that respect, our students are able to find the opportunity to work in the Media Center of Yaşar University, and become a part of projects of our last year students and our lecturers.
The department has established international relations with various institutions in order to equip our students with skills in a global scale. They are able to study abroad through Erasmus Exchange or Internship programs. They also draw on the experience and knowledge of foreign experts in seminars conducted as part of our film festival and academic program.
The success of our students and graduates prove that they are provided a proper education, and they are presented with every opportunity to enrich their creativity, to improve their knowledge and skills. The primary goal of the academic staff here in the Radio, Television and Cinema department is making sure that our students boldly take their first steps in their careers as excellently educated, properly equipped individuals who can look forward to their lives with confidence, individuals with a strong job ethic, a firm work discipline, and robust communication skills.
